After the opening of the Second Congress of the Communist International on July 19, 1920 John Reed led a procession from the Tauride Palace to the Field of Mars carrying a giant wreath emblazoned with ‘‘The Second Congress of the Communist International Of Proletarians Of All Countries – To Brothers Fallen in the Struggle for Communism’ to lay at the communal grave, of those who fell in February 1917, the Monument to the Fighters of the Revolution. Two months later Reed would be dead from typhus, and his own internment in the Kremlin Wall accompanied by a giant public funeral. An amazing photo.
