In the 1932 New York Mayoral election, Morris Hillquit’s last, he and the Socialist Party received 249,887 votes, or 12.37%. This was the best result for the SP since their 1917 high point when Hillquit won 21.6% of the city’s vote. William L. Patterson ran for the Communist Party and won 24,014 votes, or 1.19%. and Olive M. Johnson, Socialist Labor Party leader and editor of the Weekly People, got 11,379 votes, or 0.56%.
