The Bugle (Oklahoma City), Vol. 1, No. 1, April, 1922. Inaugural Issue.
The Bugle was a newspaper published in Oklahoma City between 1922 and 1924 by E.H.H. Gates in an attempt to revive the once-mighty Socialist Party of America in Oklahoma after 1916’s “Green Corn Rebellion,” Debs’ imprisonment, and the reactionary wave following US entry into World War One decimated the party in the state. Only eight issues are known to survive, the effort being unsuccessful. Aligning with the remaining left in the S.P., The Bugle’s masthead read ‘Devoted to Marxian Socialism- He Who Does Not Work, Neither Shall He Eat.’
