The Oklahoma Socialist (Duncan). Vol. 1 No. 26. July 21, 1910.
The Oklahoma Socialist, published in Duncan, Stephens County was one of dozens of such papers in the party’s 1908-1916 heyday in which the Oklahoma, with its 10,000 members and 20% vote share, had the highest percentage of Socialists of any state. Begun in 1910 and edited by Charles W. Norton and William Bonner. The paper replaced the short-lived Addington Advertiser, was issued weekly for around a year when editor Norton was almost lynched, and jailed for ‘libel.’
