‘Buffalo Socialists Host New Year’s Masque and Civic Ball’ from Buffalo Socialist. Vol. 2 No. 82. December 27, 1913.

Unlucky Thirteen Will See Its Finnish – Socialists Will See that the Famous Hoodoo is Put Under for 100 Years – Broadway Auditorium, Will be Place of Attraction on New Year’s Eve -“Dusk to Dawn” Will be Given Dance the Old Year Out and the New Year In.

New Year’s Eve will be a gala night for the Socialists of Buffalo and vicinity. At the Broadway Auditorium they will see the Old Year out and usher in the New Year with such a carnival of merry-making as has never been known in this city. Old and young, large and small; they will all be on hand and take part in helping Father Time turn the wheel around one more notch.

The event which will bring them all out is the Masque and Civic Ball which will be held under the auspices of the Socialist Party of Buffalo.

There should be no reason why every one should not be on hand. The admission is so small as to be within the reach of all. Only 25 cents. A good time is assured to all who come. There will be refreshments of all kinds and dancing, with the best music available. Bolton’s Park Band will render the music for this occasion.

Father Time, that venerable personage who will be the chief guest at all festivities on this evening, will give the signal and at prompt twelve o’clock, accompanied by the charter members of Local Buffalo, S.P., he will lead the Grand March. It is rumored that many noted persons will attend in costume. Mutt and Jeff will be there with bells on. Mr. and Mrs. Dingbat, accompanied by their pet Krazy Kat will also be on hand. It is rumored that Mr. Dingbat will be disguised as Kaptian Kidd. An invitation has been sent to the Queen of Hearts, in the Garden of Love, and although there has been no reply as yet, it is expected that she will be on hand accompanied by her retinue.

Another special feature of the evening’s entertainment will be the production of the great labor play, “From Dusk to Dawn.” This is one of the most wonderful moving pictures of the age. In five reels, it tells the story of the wage worker. It sets forth in the clearest possible manner, the struggle between the capitalist and the worker. It shows how and why strikes are lost or broken. There are ten thousand working men in one scene in this play. Some of the leading parts in this play are taken by prominent Socialists, among them are Job Harriman, J. Stitt Wilson and many others.

Again let us remind you that you should be at the Broadway Auditorium on New Year’s Eve. Again let us remind you of the good times we will have. Tell. all of your friends. Sell them a ticket. Call for them on New Year’s Eve and make sure that they attend and you will help to make this the biggest event of the season. And last of all, don’t forget to be on hand yourself. You and your wife, or sweetheart, and the little ones, if you have any. There will be good times for all.
