The Origin of Christianity: A Historical Study by Karl Kautsky. Translated from German by J.K. Kari. Työmies, Superior Wisconsin, 1918.

Työmies began as a project of the Socialist Party’s Finnish Socialist Federation through its large Western Workmen’s Co-operative Publishing Company begun in 1911 and first edited by female Finnish parliamentarian, the Socialist Maiju Raunio. The weekly was launched with a run of 3,000 and grew to 12,000 by 1926. The Finnish Socialist Federation would, in its majority, split from the Socialist Party to found the new Communist movement in 1919 and eventually Toveritar became a publication of the Communist Party. Printing was first done in Astoria, Oregon and then moved to Superior, Wisconsin in 1931 where it was produced from the offices of Työmies under the name, Työlaisnainen (Working Woman) and from1936 as Naisten Viiri (Woman’s Banner) where it continued publication until June, 1978.
