An important piece of history, this pamphlet written by Adolph Douai for the Workingmen’s Party, precursor to the Socialist Labor Party, was one of the first popularly written Socialist tracts appealing to English-speaking workers in the U.S. and Its politics define the early years of the S.L.P.
Better Times! by Adolph Douai. Published by the Executive Committee of the Socialistic Labor Party, New York. 1884.
‘This pamphlet was first published in a large edition in 1877, during the former great crisis of commerce and production. Being now out of print, yet in all its views as true and applicable at the present time as then, it is republished with only slight changes such as are required by present changes of facts. In the earnest hope that all readers of these pages will reflect carefully upon the arguments presented, we are,
‘Yours in the cause of Labor,
The Executive Committee, Socialistic Labor Party of North America.’
